Head of Software Engineering
At Bloq.it, we've created the world's leading smart locker solution. Solving online deliveries by enabling everyone to participate easily, reducing delivery costs, and making them more sustainable.
We're quickly expanding, and after growing at 1000% for three years in a row, we're now the fastest-growing Smart Locker company in the world and one of the fastest growing scale-ups in Europe.
We are searching for a Head of Engineering to lead our OpsTech organization as a new #bloqstar. OpsTech is the bounded context that develops and maintains the data, tools, integrations, and internal platforms that power Bloq.it's smart locker operations and our internal workflows. Our mission is to make Bloq.it run on rails — through automation, real-time data, and a unified operational platform.
You'll lead an organization of around 20 people, including three Engineering Managers.
What you’ll be doing:
Lead and develop the OpsTech engineering organization, including managers, team leads, and engineers across the different teams
Own delivery excellence across all OpsTech teams: predictability, quality, sustainable pace, and outcome accountability
Drive two strategic in-flight programs: the transition from Airtable to Odoo as Bloq.it's operational system of record, and the build-out of OperationsOS as the unified operational platform that connects human actions, field processes, and AI-driven insights
Define the integration and automation strategy across our internal stack (Odoo, Airtable, HubSpot, and partner systems), eliminating manual work and isolated tools
Partner closely with the Operations leadership team, your primary internal customer, and with Product, Commercial, and the rest of Engineering to align roadmap, priorities, and trade-offs
Define and evolve the OpsTech operating model: planning, prioritization, dependency management, release discipline, and delivery metrics
Own performance management across the OpsTech org, ensuring fair and consistent application of our talent frameworks
Shape the team itself: structure, headcount planning, hiring strategy, career paths, and succession
Champion engineering excellence and operational reliability for systems that the entire company depends on every day, and develop the next generation of engineering leaders within OpsTech.
What you’ll bring to the table:
Proven experience (8+ years) in software engineering, with at least 5+ years in engineering leadership roles, including managing managers or team leads
Track record leading multi-team engineering organizations (15+ engineers) through periods of significant change and growth
Strong technical credibility across at least two of: ERP platforms (Odoo, NetSuite, SAP, Dynamics), data platforms, integration and automation platforms, or internal tooling at scale
Hands-on understanding of modern software engineering practices, cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), CI/CD, and observability
Experience defining and operating delivery frameworks that improve predictability, cycle time, and quality across multiple teams
Demonstrated ability to lead operational/internal platforms whose primary customer is another internal department, translating fuzzy operational pain into clear engineering outcomes
Excellent stakeholder management with non-technical operational stakeholders, plus the ability to engage substantively with senior engineers in technical reviews
Experience owning hiring, performance management, and career development at scale, including hard conversations and decisions
Excellent communication skills in both Portuguese and English, including the ability to communicate strategy and trade-offs to executives
A problem-solving mindset with a data-driven approach to engineering performance and operational impact.
It would be great if you would also have:
Hands-on experience leading Odoo implementations or migrations, or comparable ERP transformations.
Experience building internal platforms ("OperationsOS"-style), workflow automation engines, or low-code/no-code transitions to engineered systems;
Experience in products combining hardware and software, or in operationally complex domains (logistics, retail ops, field operations, fulfillment);
Experience growing scale-ups from early-stage engineering teams to 100+ people;
Track record of building strong engineering cultures focused on ownership, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Why join us?
A high-impact leadership role at one of Europe's fastest-growing logistics-tech companies, with direct ownership of the platforms that power how Bloq.it operates
A dynamic and fast-paced work environment with a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning
Competitive salary and benefits package, tailored to your experience and skills, including performance-based bonus and Portuguese health insurance
Flexible work conditions, including a remote-friendly policy and a flexible schedule that allows you to balance your work and personal life
Monthly meetings in-person at our HQ Office in Lisbon, PT, giving you the chance to connect with the team and immerse yourself in our company culture
Make a tangible impact by shaping the engineering organization that powers our daily operations and our partner integrations, actively supporting our mission to provide affordable and sustainable last-mile delivery

About Bloq.it
At Bloq.it, we provide end-to-end solutions for Smart Lockers, and our software ecosystem, Bloq.it OS, is the leading tech solution available in the market.
We've had the pleasure of working with some of the biggest names in e-commerce, logistics, and retail in Europe, such as Vinted and DHL.
We have recently become the fastest-growing Smart Locker company in the world. Before Bloq.it the industry had stagnated and lacked innovation and good products. We strive to have the same impact in this industry as Tesla has had on the car industry.
We believe that Smart Lockers are a big part of the future for everyone, and we want to play our part in making sure that Smart Lockers become as mainstream as the mobile phone.
